Retrospective analyses for adult patients transplanted at single institution conducted to characterize specific risk factors for steroid-refractory acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD)
Majority of patients had AML, received peripheral blood stem cells, and prophylaxed with cyclosporine + methotrexate against aGVHD
MUD (matched unrelated donor), FM (female donor), and no antithymocyte globulin (ATG) identified as specific risk factors in multivariate analyses
Identified risk factors lend further support to role of donor T cell alloreactivity in pathogenesis of steroid-refractory acute graft-versus-host disease
