Chemotherapy combined concurrently with TKIs produced a negative interaction and failed to improve survival when compared with chemotherapy or TKIs alone in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The present study investigated the sequence-dependent interaction between paclitaxel and gefitinib and clarified the underlying mechanism. »

Breast cancer (BrCa) is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in the industrialized world. More than half of women presenting with metastatic BrCa develop bone metastases. Bone metastases increase the risk of skeletal-related events (SREs), defined as pathological fractures, spinal cord compression, bone pain requiring palliative radiotherapy, and orthopaedic surgery. Both bone metastases and SREs are associated with unfavorable prognosis and greatly affect quality of life. Few epidemiological data exist on SREs after primary diagnosis of BrCa and subsequent bone metastasis. We therefore estimated the incidence of bone metastases and SREs in newly-diagnosed BrCa patients in Denmark from 1999 through 2007. »

Prostate specific antigen acceleration can be calculated as the slope of log prostate specific antigen vs time, where log is the natural logarithm. We determined the best interval in which prostate specific antigen acceleration can be calculated with the best result in terms of specificity and sensitivity for prostate cancer diagnosis. »

Previous epidemiologic studies found inconsistent results for the association between red meat intake, nitrosamines (NDMA: N-Nitrosodimethylamine and ENOC: endogenous nitrosocompounds) and the risk of bladder cancer. We investigated the association between red meat consumption, dietary nitrosamines and heme iron and the risk of bladder cancer among participants of the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition (EPIC). »
