Urinary bladder cancer is two-to-four times more common among men than women, a difference in risk not fully explained by established risk factors. Our objective was to determine whether hormonal and reproductive factors are involved in female bladder cancer. »

Tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) is one of the most promising anti-cancer agents, but some tumor types develop resistance to TRAIL. Here, we report that chetomin, an inhibitor of hypoxia-inducible factors, is a potent enhancer of TRAIL-induced apoptosis. »

Both the sulfated and non-sulfated derivatives (e.g. carboxymethyl benzylamide dextrans) of heparan sulfate were reported to have anticancer activity. On this basis, we introduced sulfates and phenyls in carboxymethyl benzylamide dextrans into chitosan, which is easily modified by different functional groups in any given position and then evaluated anticancer activity in breast cancer cells. »

Breast cancer (BC) is the most common cancer in women in Western countries, showing a bimodal age distribution with peaks at 50 and 70 years. Multiple factors are encountered in the etiology of BC, including hereditary and hormonal causes. A few viruses, including MMTV, EBV and HPV have been reported to be associated with BC. This group previously described the presence of the measles virus (MV) in biopsies of patients with Hodgkin's lymphoma. The present study explored MV antigens in BC patients. »

Late age at first full-term birth and nulliparity are known to increase breast cancer risk. The frequency of these risk factors has increased in recent decades. »

Recently, it has been reported that oncostatin M receptor-β (OSMR) is frequently methylated in primary colon cancer tissues, but not in normal tissues. We examined the methylation status of the OSMR gene in primary carcinomas and the corresponding normal tissues derived from 56 patients with colorectal cancer. »

Little evidence is available on the relation of physical activity with colon adenomas, a colon cancer precursor. »

Smoking and alcohol consumption are associated with an increased risk of developing colorectal cancer. However, it is unclear whether these exposures are associated with survival after colorectal cancer diagnosis. »

Receptor tyrosine kinase EphB2 and autophagic machinery are known as tumor suppressors; however, the connection remains to be elucidated. Here, we show the link between EphB2 and autophagy. »

Epidermal growth factor (EGF) module-containing mucin-like receptor 2 (EMR2) is a member of the seven span transmembrane (TM7) adhesion G-protein coupled receptor subclass. It is abundantly expressed in immune cells of myeloid origin and appears to mediate cellular adhesion, migration, and signaling. »
