Prospective cohort studies about cutaneous melanoma (CM) risk are still few. Host factor- and UVR exposure data were collected prospectively by questionnaire in this population-based cohort study including 40000 Swedish born women, aged 25-64 years at enrolment (1990). »

Cancer stem cells' (CSCs) are tumor cells with stem cell properties hypothesized to be responsible for tumorigenesis, metastatis, and resistance to treatment, and have been identified in different tumors including cutaneous melanoma, using stem cell markers such as CD133. This study explored expression of CD133 and other putative stem cell markers in uveal melanoma. »

Small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) has poor prognosis and remains orphan from targeted therapy. MET is activated in several tumour types and may be a promising therapeutic target. »

In a European multicenter prospective study patients with lung cancer were interviewed for smoking history and biological samples centrally collected. The aim of this study was to compare KRAS mutation analysis with smoking status at the time of diagnosis. »

Cervical cancer is caused by human papilloma virus (HPV) expressing E6 and E7 oncoproteins, which are known to inactivate tumor suppressor proteins p53 and pRb, respectively. Repression of HPV oncoproteins would therefore result in reactivation of tumor suppressor pathways and cause apoptosis in cancer cells. »

Esophageal adenocarcinoma is often considered to arise from a clonal stem-like population of cells, which is potentially responsible for its poor prognosis. Transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) and Notch signaling pathways play important roles in regulating self-renewal of stem cells and cell-fate determination. Both pathways are frequently implicated in gastrointestinal carcinogenesis. However, their contributions to esophageal adenocarcinoma remain unclear. »

The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of calcyclin on the growth, proliferation, apoptosis, invasion and cell cycle of gastric cancer cell lines in order to elucidate the role that calcyclin plays in gastric adenocarcinoma. Calcyclin cDNA was subcloned into a constitutive vector pcDNA3.1 followed by liposome-mediated transfection in the MKN45 gastric cancer cell line. Stable transfectants were selected and appraised. »

The association between fish consumption and risk of bladder cancer has not been established yet. The results from epidemiological studies are inconsistent. »

To investigate the relationship between Eg5 expression and prognosis of patients with non-muscle invasive bladder urothelial carcinoma. »

Body mass is inversely related to breast cancer risk among premenopausal women. Leptin, an essential cytokine regulating food intake, energy expenditure, glucose, and fat metabolism may be part of the mechanistic pathway. We investigated 50 tagging and candidate SNPs in the leptin (LEP) and leptin receptor (LEPR) genes for associations with premenopausal breast cancer incidence using 405 cases and 810 controls nested within the Nurses' Health Study II. »
