Ovarian cancer is one of the most significant malignancies in the western world. Studies showed that Ovarian cancers tend to grow resistance to cisplatin treatment. Therefore, new approaches are needed in ovarian cancer treatment. Kaempferol is a dietary flavonoid that is widely distributed in fruits and vegetables, and epidemiology studies have revealed a protective effect of kaempferol against ovarian cancer risk. Our early studies also found that kaempferol is effective in reducing vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression in ovarian cancer cells. In this study, we investigated kaempferol's effects on sensitizing ovarian cancer cell growth in response to cisplatin treatment. »

Small noncoding microRNAs (miRNA) regulate the expression of target mRNAs by repressing their translation or orchestrating their sequence-specific degradation. In this study, we investigated miRNA and miRNA target gene expression patterns in melanoma to identify candidate biomarkers for early and progressive disease. »

We measured tyrosinase mRNA levels by real-time quantitative reverse transcription-PCR (qRT-PCR), in the blood of patients with uveal melanoma. Results were correlated with clinical data and, in a subgroup of patients, with the number of circulating tumor cells (CTC) assessed using isolation by size of epithelial tumor cells (ISET). »

Fyn is 59-kDa member of the Src family of kinases that is historically associated with T-cell and neuronal signaling in development and normal cellular physiology. Whereas Src has been heavily studied in cancer, less attention has been traditionally awarded to the other Src kinases such as Fyn. »

To analyze expression of the sodium/iodide symporter (NIS) in tissue specimen from a large series of patients with prostate adenocarcinoma. Few data are available on the NIS expression in prostate tumor tissues. »

Kallikrein-related peptidase 7 (KLK7) is upregulated in epithelial ovarian carcinoma (EOC) with high levels correlated with poor prognosis. However, the mechanisms underlying this relationship and the role of KLK7 in EOC progression are unknown. »

In this study the modulatory effect of the proteinase kinase C beta (PKC beta) selective inhibitor enzastaurin on CA125 expression and shedding in ovarian cancer cells (OVCAR-3 cells) was investigated. MATERIAL ANDMETHODS: OVCAR-3 cells were cultured in vitro and treated with increasing concentrations of carboplatin (2-1.000microM), paclitaxel (0.2-100nM) or enzastaurin (1-100microM) single agent. Growth inhibitory effects were evaluated by MTS and luminescence assay. CA 125 was determined in supernatans and in cell lysate using an electrochemo-iluminescence immunoassay. »

Chemoprevention is a promising new approach to cancer prevention. Since the beginning of chemoprevention studies, short-term in vitro models used in the study of carcinogenesis have been applied in the identification of antitumor-promoting agents. »

he candidate tumor suppressor NORE1A is a nucleocytoplasmic shuttling protein, and although a fraction of the NORE1A in cells is localized to their centrosomes, the role of centrosomal NORE1A has not been elucidated. In this study we investigated the role of NORE1A in the numerical integrity of centrosomes and chromosome stability in lung cancer cells. »

Many human lung cancer cell lines express apolipoprotein E (ApoE), especially cells derived from malignant pleural effusions (MPE) in patients with lung adenocarcinoma. This study aimed to investigate the influence of ApoE expression on lung cancer. »
