Eradication of early gastric carcinoma (GC) is thought to contribute to reduction in the mortality of GC, given that most of the early GCs progress to the advanced GCs. However, early GC is alternatively considered a dormant variant of GC, and it infrequently progresses to advanced GC. The aim of this study was to clarify the extent of overlap of genetic lineages between early and advanced tubular adenocarcinomas (TUBs) of the stomach. »

The role of peri-operative chemotherapy in patients with resected stage IV colorectal cancer (CRC) remains to be defined. This study was aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of peri-operative chemotherapy in patients with resected stage IV CRC by performing a meta-analysis of relevant trials. »

We conducted a retrospective study in our hospital in which we compared D1 with D3 through D2 lymphadenectomy for gastric cancer in terms of morbidity, postoperative mortality, long-term survival after surgery. »

Cutaneous melanoma in childhood is rare; therefore, its prognostic factors and biologic behavior and the effectiveness of adjuvant diagnostic techniques in this group remain mostly unknown. »

The BRAF(V600E) mutation is common in several human cancers, especially melanoma. RG7204 (PLX4032) is a small-molecule inhibitor of BRAF(V600E) kinase activity that is in phase II and phase III clinical testing. Here, we report a preclinical characterization of the antitumor activity of RG7204 using established in vitro and in vivo models of malignant melanoma. »

Melanoma has a poor prognosis due to its strong metastatic ability. Although Ca(2+) plays a major role in cell migration, little is known about the role of Ca(2+) in melanoma cell migration. We recently found that the exchange protein directly activated by cyclic AMP (Epac) increases melanoma cell migration via a heparan sulfate-related mechanism. »

To assess vimentin immunoreactivity in normal, reactive and neoplastic endocervical epithelium, and compare the results with p16 protein, Ki-67 and bcl-2 expression. »

Myeloid zinc finger 1 (MZF1) is a member of the SCAN domain family transcription factors that form dimers through their highly conserved SCAN motifs. Silencing of MZF1 inhibits cell proliferation, and abnormal expression of MZF1 results in cancer development. »

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between different human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes and the expression of p53, p21 and p27 in cervical carcinomas. »

Centrosome aberrations can cause genomic instability and correlate with malignant progression in common human malignancies such as breast and prostate cancer. Deregulation of cyclin/cyclin-dependent kinase 2 (CDK2) activity has previously been shown to be critically involved in centrosome overduplication. We therefore test here whether small molecule CDK inhibitors derived from the bis-indole indirubin can be used to suppress centrosome aberrations as a novel approach to chemoprevention of malignant progression. »
